Protocols

Six protocols, explained plainly

A VPN protocol is the rulebook for how your device and our servers talk. Stealthora VPN supports six so you always have the fastest one that works on your network. WireGuard is the default — and the right pick for almost everyone.

WireGuard
Primary · fastest

WireGuard uses public-key cryptography: your device generates its own key pair and only ever shares the public half. Your private key never leaves the device, so we literally cannot impersonate you or read your traffic.

Best for: Everyday browsing, streaming, gaming — anything where speed matters.
OpenVPN
Battle-tested

Mature, heavily audited, and supported everywhere. We offer both UDP (faster) and TCP/443 (more compatible) so you can connect on networks that block other protocols.

Best for: Maximum compatibility and networks that block newer protocols.
IKEv2
Best on mobile

IKEv2/IPsec excels at MOBIKE — seamlessly migrating your session as your network changes. Drop into a tunnel, walk out of Wi-Fi range, and stay connected without a hiccup.

Best for: Mobile users who switch networks constantly.
IPsec
Standards-based

Built into virtually every operating system, IPsec provides strong, standards-based encryption with broad native support — no extra app required on many devices.

Best for: Native device configuration without third-party software.
L2TP/IPsec
Universal

L2TP carries the tunnel while IPsec encrypts it. It is not the fastest option, but its near-universal native support makes it a dependable fallback on legacy hardware.

Best for: Older routers and devices with no modern VPN client.
SSTP
Firewall-friendly

Because SSTP rides inside a standard TLS session on 443, it blends in with normal web traffic. When a network blocks everything else, SSTP usually still gets through.

Best for: Heavily restricted networks (hotels, campuses, some countries).

Not sure which to pick?

Leave it on WireGuard. The app automatically suggests an alternative if your network blocks it.
